Available Metaverse Platforms

There are some virtual worlds and metaverse-like platforms eixst on the internet. As the technology evolves and the developments still continue we’ll witness many more to come. Some of the existing ones are given below as an example for the metaverse concept.



Decentraland

Decentraland is one of the most popular metaverse platforms and a good starting point to understand the metaverse concept. The platform, which currently only available via dekstop, allows users to create avatar, scenes, artworks, buy virtual goods such as clothes, and lands


To be able to participate, users need to own a crypto wallet but the platform can be explored as a guest too. Built on the Ethereum blockchain, mana is the valid currency in Decentraland.


According to the new research, a plot of land sold for €2.1 million in the platform, eliminate its own previous record sale of €810,000 (Chulain 2021). The platform hosted virtual festivals13 and music events featured more than 80 artists such as Deadmau5, The Wombats and RAC . Besides the developers own official events, users can plan and submit events too.



Second Life


Second Life is one of the first platforms that offered metaverse experience. Released on 2003, users can customize their avatars, create buildings or objects which helps users to have more personalized experience. The economy in Second Life is based of virtual currency, Linden dollar.


Horizon


Created by Meta Inc., Horizon is a virtual reality platform where users can play games, attend events, socialize or have business related meetings. Horizon offers three project that available now in beta versions; Horizon Worlds, Horizon Workrooms, Horizon Venues. Horizon can be experienced by Meta’s own VR headsets, Quest 2.
